Vintage Ashley

I'm always dreaming things up but making them happen usually takes me months. This is no exception. It's not like I had a ton of little things to collect for this session besides clothes and accessories but for some reason this session was like a pregnancy, 9 months! Just kidding, but it did feel that way. I originally had a model lined up who didn't work out after two months of planning, but thankfully, because then I wouldn't have used Ashley for it and she was just too perfect. There are so many little details about the little things that I wish I could share but I don't want to bore you to death so I'll spare the details and just share the images from the day....
We started out in a tree..a really big tree.

Then we hit the meadow with the magical hazy light..

Isn't this dress DIVINE!? I got it from my adoptive Mom, thank you MOM!

Next we went to my favorite truck. This truck is smack dab in the middle of someone's yard. THANK YOU Frank!

Then we threw off the vintage and went classic at a perfect little harbor on the lake. Thank you Captain John!

Thank you Ashley for being you. You are wonderful and sweet and I enjoyed you! Thank you Laura for coming along with me on my craziness and for our slumber party afterwards!

Fifty Two on Fridays {Week 25} Emotion

A few weeks ago I photographed this beautiful family. To share the love in them would be to tell you that I really enjoyed editing their session. I felt like with each picture, each new time I saw their faces, that I got a little gift all over again. They are so special. This is one of my faves from that day. The little guy was just done with photos, but the second Dad grabbed him and wrestled him over it was all smiles again. It's amazing what the arms of a loving Dad can do. Dads, cherish your babies, they won't be little for long and what you do now matters more then you could ever imagine. Happy Father's "Month"!

Fifty Two on Fridays {Week 24} Whimsical

This week is whimsical and with this theme I feel right at home. I guess it's my favorite thing to dream about. The word conjurs up the thought of childhood laughter, warm sunshine, and a place or time that's just a little more magical then ordinary. I love whimsical! Sorry, there was NO WAY I could pick just one.
Here is my Ava enjoying 5 minutes of whimsy with Mommy in the neighbors yard...

An oasis in the desert.... {Antelope Valley Photography}

I shoot most of my sessions in the Antelope Valley so I have done my share of scouring the Joshua Tree dotted landscape for magical locations. Recently I had a session there and was a little nervous about finding just the right location for a special family and in my search for one I found Frances. Frances owns a beautiful ranch in the heart of the desert and when she offered that I could use it in exchange for photos of her and her handsome cowboy I was elated! I felt like a heaping load of blessing landed in my lap. We didn't spend much time shooting but in the 20 or so minutes I think I was able to capture some really sweet moments of them together, their gorgeous oasis, and their elderly (20 years old) horse. Thank you so much Frances for your generosity, I am blessed to have used your land and I am grateful to have met you as well! Here is just a little peek to tide you over until you get your package in the mail. xoxo

Another beautiful family... {Big Bear Family Photography}

I've had so much fun with all the family sessions I've been doing lately. One of the best parts about it is all the sweet sweet sweet people I meet. This family is no exception. They have sweetness coming out of their ears! Their kids are so beautiful and little Carson is such a charmer with his big smile and little dimples too. Payton was a little timid but thankfully I had my assistant Summer to draw out her sweet personality. I feel like I've made a friend in their mama and hopefully I'll get to see them again one day. Aren't they beautiful!!
Thank you R family for a wonderful time and for choosing me to capture your sweet family! xoxox

Fifty Two on Fridays {Week 23} Macro

This weeks Friday project is Macro, and let me tell you, it wasn't easy. I take my hat off to those who've mastered it. Ava and I had a good time strolling around our neighborhood this afternoon looking for flowers. We found so many that I couldn't choose just one. Afterall, all that effort should have something to show for it. lol! Happy Friday!

A very sweet family..... {Big Bear Lake Arrowhead Photography}

Last week I had pleasure of meeting this very sweet family and their little girl Savanna. I had enjoyed a few conversations with mama before our session so when they arrived at our magical little location I already felt right at home with them. As soon as little Savanna came running over with her beautiful skin, her big blue eyes, contagious smile, and curls you can't buy, I was super excited to get started. She was a bundle of energy and joy and I am really glad that my assistant, Summer, had enough energy to keep up with her. One thing I did learn from this session, however, is that in the future, with a two year old, I will be using REAL apples. It's kind of tricky to give a toddler fake apples. lol! It was a pleasure meeting you and capturing family moments with you, C family!

Tea and Cupcakes... {Big Bear Lake Arrowhead Photographer}

If I could tell you in pictures why I love photography it would be this session. I have been planning this session for months. I made 3 little outfits and bought buttons for them from the antique store. The pinwheels were made from childrens sheet music, the banner was put together, I imagined them dancing and playing, and then the session sat...in my head....for months. It was really hard for me to bring it to life in fear that it wouldn't be what I envisioned in my mind. I really feared the disappointment. Especially when I know just how much I dreamed of doing this. But thankfully I am not disappointed. I love these girls. One is mine and the other two are my sweet nieces. They had so much fun being here in this magical tea-land that they barely noticed I was taking pictures. That's what I love. A place that you dream of, that can be brought to life and captured through a lens and kept forever. It's magic.

Fifty Two on Fridays {Week 22} Water

Water. Seems pretty simple right? I really struggled with this one, maybe because it IS so simple. The obvious choice for me was taking a picture of the big beautiful lake where I live. Big Bear is all about water. Whether it's in the form of snow, streams, rain, or lakes. It's beautiful! That's why we can't wait until we get some warm weather so we can go PLAY in it. But today it was chilly so Ava danced around in the snow run-off fully clothed. She had so much fun, you should have heard her cry when I told her we had to go. My pretty drama baby, she sure loves the water.
